  • Don’t assume that you have the decision-making power. It is important to know who the sponsor really is.
  • Do not assume that your sponsor would approve of the project. It’s not easy to get funding from their boss if they don’t want to. Kimberly’s case shows that executives generated ideas for projects and the CEO made decisions about what to implement. Ideas for improving one division came primarily from another division.   • Don’t assume that your sponsor knows their role. Encourage your sponsor to coach you and let them know what support the project will need.
